Jane Austen: Järki ja tunteet / Jane Austen: Sense and Sensibility

English below

Kirjan takakansi sanoo:

"Jane Austen (1775-1817) On varakkaan englantilaisen keskiluokan kuvaaja.
Taustana on vanhan hyvän ajan pikkuporvarillinen seurapiiri. Jane Austenin kerronnan huumori on tehnyt hänestä "Englannin hilpeimmän klassikon", jonka viisaat ja sydämelliset romaanit ovat mestaruudessaan ajattomia.
Romaanista on tehty uusi elokuvaversio, jonka on ohjannut Ang Lee. Pääosia esittävät Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet, Greg Wise ja Imogen Stubbs."

Miten ihanaa kesäluettavaa!

Minä kerron teille salaisuuden. Rakastan tämän tyylisiä kirjoja ja elokuva. Erityisesti elokuvia. Tämä on ihka ensimmäinen Austenin kirja jonka luen ja ihka ensimmäinen kirja tästä genrestä. Ja olen koukussa. Tällä kertaa päätin lukea ensin kirjan ja sitten vasta katsoa elokuvan. Ja se kannatti.

Olen yllättynyt miten uskollinen elokuva on kirjalle. Tunnistin jopa muutamat vuorosanat kirjasta vaikka luinkin suomeksi.

Siksi palaankin niihin aika ajoin uudestaan.

The book backcover says:

"Jane Austen (1775-1817) writes about english middle class. She observes the class concious and cocky surroundings with the eyes of satirist in her books.
Sense and Sensibility is about two sisters, reasonable Elinor and emotional Marianne, and their lovestories which are folding together. On the background there is the good old bourgeois society. The humor of Jane Austen books has made her "the most cheerful classic of England" for whom wise and heartfelt books are all time masterpieces.
There's a movie made based on the book and it's directed by Ang Lee. The cast includes the talents like Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet, Greg Wise and Imogen Stubbs."

What a wonderful summer reading!

I tell you a secret. I love these kinds of books and films. Especially films. This is the first ever book which I've read from Austen and first ever book of this genre. And I'm hooked. This time I decided to read the book first and then watch the movie. And it really was worth it.

I'm suprised how well the movie follows the book. I even reckognized some of the lines from the book even though I read it in Finnish. Now I'm thinking of reading it again someday in English :) I do that a lot. If the book is in Finnish of course I prefer to read it in my own language. But if I found it to be very good book I really want to read it again with the language its been written at the first place (and because I can read only English it only works if the book is originaly written in English of course). But the movie was really well made and the things which they had left out are understandable. So, well done Ang Lee!

I really do fancy that time in which the story is held. Although it was really rough living. And English countryside is always a nice place. I'm funny that way, when I see a beautiful historic or fantasy movie I'll start to dream. And when I was younger I imagined my own character into the story. That's even how I got my internet name and nickname "Lilli". It was one of those nights alone at home when I watched The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring over and over again. And I found my very own half elf, half hobbit character "Lilith Evoly" which has been my alter ego quite many years now :) I don't make characters to the films as much anymore but I still dream about those times and places. That's why I'll come back to them from time to time.

Well, you know what I meant... Mommy read a gook in high school (not me, I'm a dog you know.)

Let's try it again --- "book" not "gook" in high school --- this is just going to be one of those day -- Mommy just wants to go back to bed! :)
