Oscar-gaala / Oscar Awards

Tuli sitten katsottua Oscar-gaala. Täällä Suomessahan alkoi punainen matto 00:40 ja itse gaala 03:30.

Alan olemaan aivan liian vanha tällaiseen valvomiseen...

Itse gaala oli ihan ok. Hieman tylsä. Juontaja parilta (varsinkin Anne Hathawayltä) odotin kyllä vähän enemmän. En tiedä oliko James Francolla nyt jännitys niin kova, että siksi oli niin tylsä ja jäykkä.


Kuten muinakin vuosina, ehdokkaana oli monta uutta leffaa, joista en edes tiennyt tai ollut edes kuullut, mutta joista tosin pitää nyt ottaa selvää. Kuten Black Swan, King's speech, True Grit, ehkäpä Winter's Bonekin.
Paljon uusia näyttelijöitäkin näin, muutama varmasti tulevaisuuden lupaus, kuten Hailee Stenfield, joka olikin ehdokkaana parhaasta päänäyttelijättärestä True Gritistä. 14-vuotias nuorukainen ja mitä luultavammin todella lahjakas, ainakin sen perusteella mitä näin True Gritin pätkistä. 


Mutta missä oli legendat!! Helena Bonham-Carter ja Tim Burton oli kyllä eturivissä ja monta, monta muutakin ihanaa (ehdokkaat tietty) ja mielestäni taisin nähdä vilaukselta Quentin Tarantinosta punaisella matolla, mutta en ole varma. Mutta en nähnyt edes, kauemmalle kun yritin katsella, legendoja kuten Johnny Depp ja Clint Eastwood ym. En edes Leonardo DiCapriota, vaikka Inceptionkin sai monta pystiä ja oli ehdolla monessa.


Harmittaa kun Alice in Wonderland sai vain kaksi pystiä, lavastuksesta ja puvustuksesta (ansaitusti). Mutta minusta Oscarit ovat muutenkin hieman epäreiluja niiden elokuvien suhteen, jotka ovat tulleet jo "aikoja sitten". Suurin osa näistäkin ehdokkaista oli sellaisia joita ei ole edes elokuvateattereissa vielä, saati sitten juuri ja juuri edes kuultu, ja ei vain Suomessa, Black Swanin ensi-ilta taitaa olla muutenkin vasta 4.3. Totta kai nämä uudet elokuvat kiinnostavat ja ovat tuoreessa muistissa paremmin kuin vanhemmat ja vaikuttavat tuoreilta ja upeilta. Paremmilta kuin ne "vanhat" jotka ovat jääneet jo unohduksiin. Ja se on joka vuosi sama. Jos kesällä tulee jokin uskomattoman hyvä leffa niin sitä tuskin näkyy silti Oscareissa, ainakaan isoimmissa ehdokkuuksissa. Minusta tällaiset elokuvat, jotka tulevat ensi-iltaankin vasta Oscareitten jälkeen pitäisi olla mukana vasta seuraavan vuoden Oscareissa. Olkoonkin vaikka kuinka hyviä. Tuntuu välillä, että Oscarit onkin melkeinpä kuin suuri mainostapahtuma. Uusia elokuvia mainostetaan. Ja niin se vähän taitaa ollakin. Jonkinlaista politiikkaa siinä taidetaan käydä läpi kuten suomalaiset juontajatkin pähkäilivät. Onhan se loistavaa mainosta noille elokuville jotka ovat edes ehdollakin. Minuun ainakin puri ja tosiaan pitää nähdä ainakin neljä elokuvaa jotka olivat ehdolla. Olen siis jälleen kerran "mainonnan uhri". Toki yhdyn siihen, että Natalie Portman teki varmasti uskomattoman roolisuorituksen, sen verran erilainen rooli kyseessä ja pätkät ainakin saivat jo vakuuttumaan. Tosin, kyllä sen Oscarin olisi ansainnut Haileekin, mutta parempi vain ettei saanut. On vielä vähän turhan nuori ja varmasti näin ajattelee muutkin. Muutenhan likka varmaan sen olisi saanutkin. Ehkä Colin Firthin sai ansaitusti, niin ainakin monet sanovat, mutta siihen vaadin vielä elokuvan katsomisen ennen kuin sanon yhtään mitään. Sivurooleista en osaa kyllä sanoa yhtään mitään.


Vaikka Oscarit vaikuttavatkin välillä pelkältä mainoskikalta, eikä niissä tunnu enää olevan niin suurta arvoa kuin mitä ennen, vaikka ihmiset ovatkin otettuja sen saadessaan ja pillahtavat itkuun (onko se sitten pystin nostalgisuuden takia loppujen lopuksi...), niin kyllä minä silti vieläkin haaveilen olevani itse paikan päällä, ehkä ehdokkaanakin, jopa pystin saajanakin :D Mutta kukapa ei haaveilisi.

I watched the Oscar Awards. Here in Finland the red carpet part started at 00:40am and the real thing 3:30am.


I'm getting too old for staying awake this late...

The whole event was ok. A little bit boring. I was waiting a lot more from the host couple (especially from Anne Hathaway). I don't know if James Franco was too nervous or something and that's why he was so dull and stiff.

And like the other years this year again had very many new movies which I didn't know or hadn't even heard about, but which I must now see. Like Black Swan, King's Speech, True Grit and maybe Winter's Bone too. There were also a lot of new actors and actresses, few who might be the future promises, like Hailee Stenfield who was nominated of the best leading actress from True Grit. 14 years old and probably very talented young lady, at least what I could see from the short clips from the movie.


But where were all the legends!! I saw Helena Bonham-Carter and Tim Burton in the front row and many, many others wonderful people (most of the nominated) and I think I saw a glimpse of Quentin Tarantino on the red carpet, but I'm not sure. But I didn't see, even how hard I tried to look at, the legends like Johnny Depp or Clint Eastwood etc. Not even Leonardo DiCaprio although Inception got a lot of Oscars and was nominated in many parts.

It was a shame Alice in Wonderland did get only two Oscars, from the art direction and costume desinging (both well-earned). But in my opinion Oscars seems to be a bit unfair for those movies which were in premiere "a long time ago". Most of these nominated films were movies which aren't in cinemas yet or nobody hasn't heard of them before and not only in Finlad, Black Swans premier is on 4th of March I heard. Of course these newer movies are more interesting and in better memory than the older ones, they might even seem better than the "old" movies which are already seen and forgotten. And it's the same every year. If there is a very wonderful movie coming at the summer we rarely see it in the Oscars, atleast not in the big nominations. And in my opinion these kind of movies which hasn't even seen their premier before Oscar Awards they should be in the next years Oscars, although they would be really good. Sometimes it seems Oscars are just a big advertising event. They are advertising their new movies. And I think that's a little bit true. Some kind of a politics is going through there like the finnish hosts thought too. It surely is a very good advertising to those who are nominated. And I admit I did also find a four new movies which I should now see, which were nominated. So again, I'm "a victim of advertising". Of course I admit Natalie Portman probably made a unbelievable role and at least I was impressed from the short clips I saw. Althoug, Hailee would really have earned the Oscar too, but maybe it's better she didn't get it yet. She's a little bit too young yet and I think many agreed for that. Otherwise the girl would have definetly got it. And maybe Colin Firth also earned the Oscar, at least many are saying it, but I demand to see the movie before I say anything more. From the supporting roles, I can say nothing.


Although the Oscars seems to be sometimes only just a advertising trick and there doesn't seem to be that kind of appreciation anymore like the old days, although many are very flattered when they get it and starts to cry (is it the nosalgia which is coming from the statue after all...) I'm still dreaming of being there too, maybe be nominated and maybe even get the award :D But who wouldn't dream about it.
