Lupasin kertoa teille hieman Kevät-Maariasta tänään.
Kevät-Maaria / Marian ilmestyspäivä
Vanha kansa vietti Marian ilmestyspäivää, eli Kevät-Maariaa, 25. maaliskuuta. Kevät-Maariaa pidettiin säiden taitekohtana ja siihen liittyy monia säähän ja muihin asioihin liittyviä enteitä. Marian ilmestyspäivä on ollut tärkeää merkkiaikaa, josta on ennustettu lukemattomin tavoin tulevaa säätä. Laajalti esimerkiksi ajateltiin, että minkä verran lunta oli katoilla Marjana, sen verran vappuna pelloilla. Kevät-Maarian aikoihin tarkkailtiin hauen kutua, metsälintujen soidinta ja kurkien saapumista. Maarian aattoyönä kuunneltiin katolla istuen ääniä ja niistä ennustettiin. Jos kuului soittoa jostakin, siellä vietettiin pian häitä. Jos kuuluu naulojen takomista, tehtiin siellä pian ruumisarkkua.
Nythän, virallisen kalenterin mukaan, Marian ilmestyspäivä on sunnuntaina 27. maaliskuuta jolloin siirrymme myös kesäaikaan.
Ei tuota luntakaan enää katoilla kovin paljoa ole vaikka sitä tuossa muutama päivä tulikin taas lisää. Tämän mukaan siis vappuna pelloilla olisi kuitenkin vielä ihan kivasti lunta :/
Minä "juhlin" Kevät-Maariaa kurkkukivun kanssa :( Jouduin perumaan laulutunninkin tänään kun en uskalla laulaa. Toivon mukaan tämä ei kestä kauaa. En juuri nyt välittäisi sairastaa, varsinkaan kurkkukipua. Tosin, tämä on aika yleistä minulla tähän aikaan vuodesta :(

I promised to tell you a little about Spring-Maaria today.
Spring Maaria / Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
On the 25th of March the Finnish old folk spent Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, aka Spring Maaria. It was told to be weather's crux and there were many omens related to weather and other things. Annunciation has been significant event to foretell the future weather in many different ways. It was widely known, it would be as much snow in the fields on the 1st of May, as it's on the roofs on Spring Maaria. The old folk were also observing spawns of the northen pike, display of the forest birds and arriving of the cranes these days. On the Spring Maaria eve at night, they would go to the rooftops to listen to the different sounds and predict future from them. If they heard music somewhere, there would be a wedding soon. If they heard hitting of nails, there would soon be need of making coffin.
Nowdays, according to the official calendar, the Annunciation is on this Sunday 27th of March when also we turn our clocks to summertime.
There isn't a much snow in the roof anymore although it's been snowing heavily for a couple of days. So this would mean there might still be quite amount snow in the fields on 1st of May :/
I'm "celebrating" the Spring Maaria with a sore throat :( I had to cancel my singing lessons too because I don't think I can sing now. I hope this won't last long. I wouldn't like to be sick now, especially not the sore throat anyway. Although, this is quite common for me in this time of year :(
