Viihdyttävä ja mielenkiintoinen kirja.

Kirjassa väitettiin monen tapahtumapaikan ja -talon olevan edelleen pystyssä (enemmän tai vähemmän) ja auki yleisöllekin. Tekisi kyllä kovasti mieli käydä katsomassa niitä itse. Harmi vain kun suurin osa on juurikin Amerikoissa.

Onhan nuo kummitustarinat aina jänniä ja outoja. Joistakin on tehty isoja tutkimuksiakin ja silti jotkut ovat jääneet mysteereiksi. Itse suhtaudun aika skeptisesti moniin asioihin mutta uskon silti, että yliluonnollisia asioita tapahtuu. Jokainen yliluonnollinen tapaus pitäisi tutkia perusteellisesti ja jos ei yksinkertaisesti pystytä näyttämään toteen että kyseessä olisi huijaus, luonnonilmiö tms. on pakko uskoa asialla olleen jokin muu tuntematon. Kuitenkin tässä maailmassa on vielä monta ihmeellistä asiaa jota tiede ei pysty kokonaisuudessaan selittämään vaikka tieteellä on kyllä perusteltuja ja tutkittuja vastauksia useimpaan tapaukseen/ilmiöön.

Uskon silti esim. keijujen, lohikäärmeiden, kummitusten, vampyyrien, ihmissusien, noitien, maahisten, ym olemassaoloon vaikkei kukaan olekaan voinut todistaa näiden olemassaoloa vieläkään tyhjentävästi. Mutta maailmassa on niin paljon vielä uusia eläinlajejakin joita ei olla vielä löydetty niin en pidä mahdottomuutena etteikö näitäkin yliluonnollisiksi olioiksi tituleerattuja olisi jossain. Ovat vain hyvin piiloutuneet. Ja helppoahan se on piiloutua ihmisiltä tässä hektisessä ajassa jolloin ei nähdä enää omaa nenäänsä pidemmälle. Lapsethan näitä vielä näkevätkin :)

Entertaining and interesting book.

It was claimed in the book some places and houses were still existing (more or less) and even open for the audience. I would really want to go and see those myself. It's a shame most of the places were in America.

Those ghost stories surely are always exciting and odd. For some of them there has been made a large investigations but still they are mystery. I'm quite skeptic about these thing but I still believe there is supernatural/paranormal things. Every these kind of things should be investigated properly and if there just isn't proof that it's fraud, force of nature etc. it must be cause of something unknown. After all there is a lot of strange things in this world which even science can't explain outright although it can explain the most of the cases/phenomenon with an argument and research.

But I still believe in fairies, dragons, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, witches, goblins etc. even when nobody hasn't been able to proof these things exist. But we have so many new species in the world which we aren't been able to find yet so I don't think it would be totally impossible these things called supernatural creatures wouldn't exist somewhere. They are just well hidden. And I must admit it is quite easy to hide from humans in these busy days when we can't see longer than our noses. Children on the other hand are still seeing them :)

Kiirastorstai / Maundy Thursday

Kiirastorstai

Pääsiäisviikon torstai. Kiirastorstaina karkotettiin tulen, tervansavujen, lehmänkallojen ja muiden avulla talojen pihamailta taikamenoilla kiira, jotta »pahat henget pakenisivat seuduilta pois». Hankasalmella kerrotaan, että isäntä raahasi perässään palavaa tervatuokkosta kartanon ympäri kahdesti myötä- ja kerran vastapäivään. Toinen mies kulki perässä ja löi leppäisellä vitsalla tuohista koko ajan huudellen »Kits kiira metsään!».

Kiirastorstai on ollut erityisesti Hämeessä vuoden parhain siistimispäivä, ei vain huoneiden siivoamispäivä, vaan myös tukan ja kynsien leikkauspäivä. Jossain alueilla pahoilta voimilta suojauduttiin näihin aikoihin vielä polttamalla katajista ja terva-astioista koottuja kitkeränsavuisia valkeita täydenkuun aikaan.

Itse siivosin jo edellisviikon maanantaina kämpän läpikotaisin. Hiuksetkin kaipaisivat leikkuuta mutta ajattelin mennä parturiin vasta kesäkuun alussa.

Muuten meillä on pääsiäinen ollut jo koko viikon ajan. Rairuoho on kasvanut loistavasti (jopa se jonka "myrkytin" vahingossa Tolulla), pashaa on vielä jääkaapissa yksi satsi jäljellä, suklaamunia on syöty kuten myös muita pääsiäiskarkkeja, mämmiä olen tosin unohtanut ostaa mutta eiköhän sekin asia vielä korjaannu tässä loppuviikolla. Virpojia ei tosin näkynyt ainuttakaan palmusunnuntaina. Olen hyvin pettynyt.

Menemme Kurikkaan isännän vanhemmille viettämään pääsiäistä. Siellä varmaan on tarjolla mämmiäkin. Ja jos siellä näkyisi niitä trullejakin. Ainakin yhden näen varmasti. Isännän kummityttö varmasti menee trullittelemaan tänäkin vuonna. Siellä kun käydään virpomassa vasta pääsiäisviikon lauantaina, lankalauantaina.

Kortteja en ole tehnyt ja alkaa pikkuhiljaa huolettamaan tämä kortiton aika. Mutta yksinkertaisesti en vain jaksa raijata niitä tarvikkeita ensin esille ja sitten vielä poiskin. Sen verran pitää kyllä ryhdistäytyä, että Toukokuussa saisin aikaiseksi ainakin kaksi korttia tytölle (2- ja 5-vuotiaat) ja vähän erikoisempaa 18-vuotta täyttävälle nuorelle naiselle. 2-vuotiaan tytön lahjakin on pahasti kesken, 18-vuotiaan lahja on suunnittelu vaiheessa.

Toivotan teille kaikille aurinkoista ja lämmintä pääsiäistä (luin, että jonnekin povataan jo 20 asteen lämpöä! Ihanaa! Kesä tulee!), en usko, että kirjoittelen mitään tänne pääsiäisen aikana. Jyrin päivä / kodinhaltijan juhla olisi tuossa 23.4 joten kirjoitan siitä sitten seuraavalla viikolla kun pääsen taas paremmin koneen ääreen.

Maundy Thursday

The Thursday of the Easter week. On Maundy Thursday people banished "kiira" with fire, tar smokes, cows sculls and many other magic thing from the house yards so "the evil spirits would escape from the region". At Hankasalmi is told the master would walk around the mansion two times clockwise and one time counterclockwise with a burning tar branch after him. The other man walked behind him and hit the burning branch with alder branch and shouted all the time "Kits kiira metsään!" (Kits kiira to the forest!).

Especially at the Häme Maundy Thursday has been the best day for cleaning and not only cleaning the house but also cutting the hairs and nails. In some areas these times people took cover from the evil forces by burning bitter smoked fires gathered from the junipers and tar bins in the time of fullmoon.

I cleaned our apartment already on monday week after. My hair would need some cutting too but I thought I'll go to the barber on the beginning of the June.

We have had Easter here now all the week at our apartment. The grass has been growing wonderfully (even the one which I "poisoned" with Tolu washing agent), there's still one cake left of the paskha on the fridge, we've been eating a lot of chocolate eggs and other easter candy, I forgot to buy mämmi (rye pudding) but I think that thing will be arranged later on the week. I didn't see any conducters of finnish easter on Palm Sunday. I'm very dissapointed.

We are going to Kurikka to spend the Easter with my partner's parents. I think we might get mämmi from there. And we will see witches. At least one. My partner's god daughter is going to conduct a finnish easter again this year, I'm sure of it. There they go to conduct a finnish easter on the Saturday of the easter week.

I haven't made any cards and it's starting to worry me. But simply I just don't have interest to bring all the things on the tabel and after put them all away again. I must pull myself together later for a little bit on the May because theres two young girls (2 and 5 years old) and one 18 year old young woman who will be needing birthday cards. And for the 2 year old I also have present to make and for the 18 year old the present is in planning point.

I wish you all sunny and warm Easter (I read they forecast here even +20 degrees! Wonderful! Summer is coming!), I don't think I'll come back to write anything on Easter time. On the 23rd of April its Day of Jyri / the celebration of houshold deity but I will tell about it more on next week when I'm better near computer.

Virposunnuntai

Viikkoa ennen pääsiäistä. Lapset olivat liikkeillä varhain, kulkivat talosta taloon käsissään kirjavilla tilkuilla koristettuja tuoreita pajunvitsoja, virpoja. Talon emännän tavattuaan he virpoivat häntä kaikille suomalaisille tuttujen lorujen tahdissa: "Virvon varvon, tuoreeks terveeks, tulevaks vuodeks. Vitsa sulle, palkka mulle". (Loruja on myös monen muunlaisia mutta kaikki noudattavat aikalailla samaa kaavaa.) Tapa on kuulunut jo varhaiskristilliseen aikaan, mistä todistaa virpoa-sanan palautuminen muinaisvenäjään. Länsi-Suomessa lapset ovat koonneet »palmuja» eli »pajunkissoja». Savossa on taiteltu lehdettömiä rauduskoivun oksia ja pantu vesiastiaan. Näistä oksista on ennustettu kevään saapumisen nopeutta.

Olen ymmärtänyt, että esim. etelässä virvottaisiin palmusunnuntaina, mutta esim. pohjanmaalla virvotaan vasta pääsiäispäivää edeltävänä lauantaina, lankalauantaina. Kun taas Vakka-Suomessa ei oikeastaan virvota ollenkaan. Nykyään näyttää myös siltä, että virpomis perinne on katoamassa. Itse olen koko päivän odottanut virpojia ovelleni täällä Tampereella enkä ole nähnyt ainuttakaan, en edes kadulla. Enkä usko, että eduskuntavaalitkaan asiaan vaikuttaisi milläänlailla. Pohjanmaalla olen nähnyt muutamia pieniä trulliryhmiä muina vuosina. Harmillista. Se kun on niin kiva perinne.

Tästä alkaa pääsiäisviikko. Kämppä on jo koristeltu ja rairuohokin on jo pitkää ja sinne on ilmestynyt tipuja :)

Conduct a Finnish Easter


Week before Easter. Children were early on the move, they went from house to house with fresh willow branches decorated with colourful patches on their hands (and nowdays they usually dress up like witches too). When they met the house mistress they conducted a Finnish Easter to her with the poems all known by the Finnish people: "Virvon varvon, tuoreeks terveeks, tulevaks vuodeks. Vitsa sulle, palkka mulle" ("Virvon varvon, to the fresh health, to the becoming year. Branch for you, gift for me" and then they would give the decorated branch for her and for gift they get nowdays mostly candy, it's like halloween :)). There is many different poems for this but every of them are in same form. The custom has belonged to the early Christians which proofs the recovery of the word "virpoa" to the ancient Russia. In the West of the Finland children gathered "palms" aka "catkins". At Savo they folded leafless silver birch branches and put them in the waterbowl. From these branches they predicted how fast the spring would come.

I've noticed they conduct a Finnish Easter on the Palm Sunday at the south of the Finland and at the Ostrobothnia they conduct a Finnish Easter on the Saturday before the Easter, Holy saturday. Whereas they don't really conduct a Finnish Easter at all at the Vakka-Suomi (pushel finland). And now days it seems the whole tradition is vanishing. I've been waiting the children on my door and I haven't seen anyone, not even on the streets. And I don't believe it would be the cause of the parliamentary elections which are now here in Finland. And I've seen only some small groups of children at the Ostrobothnia on last years. It's a really shame. It's so nice tradition.

This is the beginning of the Easter. I've already decorated our apartment and the easter grass is quite long already and there appears to be a few chicks now :)

Suviyöt

12. huhtikuuta ja 14. huhtikuuta välisenä aikana. Jossain vanhassa almanakassa 14. huhtikuuta on nimeltään »Suwi-Päiwä». Suviöitä on kolme. Suvipäivän ja suviyön nimitykset selittyvät muistona ikivanhasta pohjoismaisesta vuoden kahtijaosta, mikä näkyy useimmissa vanhoissa suomalaisissa riimukalentereissa. Huhtikuun 14. päivän kohdalla on puu ylenevin oksin, mutta vastaavasti lokakuun 14. päivän kohdalla on puu alenevin oksin. Vuosi siis jaettiin kahteen puoliskoon, suveen ja talveen. Nämä puoliskot taas jaettiin neljännekseen, jotka olivat 13 viikon pituiset. Siten ensimmäinen suvipäivä oli 14. huhtikuuta, keskikesä 13. heinäkuuta, ensimmäinen talvipäivä 14. lokakuuta ja sydäntalvi 13. tammikuuta. »Suwi-Päiwä», eli siis tavallaan ensimmäinen kesäpäivä. Silloin pojat pyysivät tytöiltä suviryyppyä ja laskettiin olevan sata päivää rukiin leikkuuseen.

Suviyöt on tärkeä merkkipäivä eläinkunnalle. Väitettiin, että kalat lähtevät tällöin liikkeelle, kurjet tulevat jo Keski-Pohjanmaalle saakka, ja västäräkki saapuu kurjen siiven päällä. Varis munii ensimmäisen munansa. Lounaissuomalaisissa kylissä oli tapana, että paimenet kulkivat varhoin aamulla ja soittelivat leppätorvilla ja pukinsarvilla. Sanottiin, että »paimenet soittivat suden suun kiinni».

Eipä ulkona vielä oikein kesältä näytä. Lunta ei tosin olisi enää paljoakaan ellei sitä olisi kasoissa vielä niin paljoa. Toivon mukaan olisi nyt edes kesäkuuksi sulaneet. Plussan puolella ollaan kuitenkin aika lailla koko ajan. Kauniita päiviäkin on ollut.

Kyllä se kesä sieltä tulee!

Summernights

Between on the 12th of April and 14th of April. In some old calendars 14th of April is called "Suwi-Päiwä" (Summer Day). There's three summernights. Summerday and summernight are coming from the ancient Nordic heritage of bifurcation of the year which you can see in most of the old finnish rune calendars. In the mark of 14th of April there is a tree with high branches but not until the 14th of October there is a tree with low branches. The year was cut out into two halfs, summer and winter. These halfs were cut out into quarters which were 13 weeks long. So the first summerday was on 14th of April, midsummer on 13th of July, the first winterday was on 14th of October and midwinter was on 13th of January. "Suwi-Päivä" (Summer Day) was kind of the first day of summer. On that time boys used to ask girls for summer drink and people were counting it would be hundred days until rye would be cut.

Summernights are important event for animalia. It was claimed the fish would start their moves these times and cranes would be all the way of the Middle of Pohjanmaa and wagtail would be coming on the crane's wing. Crow would lay its first egg. It was a custom for villages in the southwest of Finland  herds walking around an early morning and playing pipes made of alder and bucks horns. It was said "paimenet soittivat suden suun kiinni" (Herds were playing the wolves mouth shut).

It doesn't look like a summer out there. Although there wouldn't be snow that much anymore if there weren't so many of those huge snow piles. I hope they melt before June. But we are in the plus degrees almost all the time. There has been a beautiful days too.

Töitä! / Job!

Tulin vain hihkuttamaan, että minä sain töitä!!

Tänään oli oikein mukava työhaastattelu jossa jaariteltiin vähän työn sivustakin. Pistivät laulamaan Lapin kesän. Oli aika hankala :D Mutta selvisin kunnialla ja kehuivat.

Seuraavaksi menen harjoittelemaan tässä joku perjantai (seuraava tai sitä seuraava?) ja sitten päätän tulenko heille töihin (en kyllä ymmärrä miksen tulisi :D).

Kyse on siis karaokejuonnosta.

I just came here to tell you, I got a job!!

Today I were in very nice job interview where we talked a lot of other things too than job things. They put me to sing Lapin kesä (Summer of Lapland). It was quite difficult :D But I managed it well and they praised me.

Next I'll go to practise the job on some Friday (this or next week?) and then I decide if I want to work for theme (why not :D).

It's about hosting karaoke.

Huh, raskasta luettavaa. Mutta sainpahan loppuun.

Mitäpä sitä voisi sanoa tuosta... eipä oikein mitään erikoista.

Ihmeellistä tosin että jopa ymmärsin jotain tuosta kirjasta. Vaikkei biologia ym. ole vahvimpia aineitani ja vanhahtava kirjoitustyyli nyt on aina hankalaa luettavaa.

Jos tuon aikoo lukea niin vaatii kyllä sisua.

Ja oli siellä yksi asia mikä minua ärsytti, jatkuva "en voi selittää tätä asiaa tarkemmin koska ei ole tarpeeksi tilaa" kommentit, mutta kuitenkin jatkuvasti toistetaan samoja asioista muissa kohdissa. Ja en nyt sanoisi tuota mitenkään pieneksi kirjaksi niin en ymmärrä, edes tuona aikana, miten pieni selitys olisi vienyt niin paljoa tilaa ettei sitä muka voisi selittää. Pikemminkin sain sellaisen kuvan, että asiaa ei ehkä oltu tutkittu loppuun asti ja näin vältellään ettei tarvitse selitellä sen paremmin :D

Whew, it was really heavy to read. But finally I finnished it.

But what can I say... nothing special really.

Although it was really amazing I even understood something while I was reading. Although biology etc. aren't my strongest subjects and the old style to write is already intrinsically hard to read.

If you are going to read this you really need guts.

And there was one thing which kept to annoy me, repeating the sentence "I can't explain this more closely because I don't have enough space" all the time, although there is a lot of other things which are repeated over and over again. And that's not a small book so I don't understand, even on the years when it was written, how the small explanation could take too much space in so big book. It seems to me the subject hasn't been researched enough and like this, you don't have to explain it better :D
