Viikko raportti 2 / Week raport 2

English below

Minulla on flunssa.

Tätä tein melkein koko viikon / This is what I did almost the whole week

Tilasin myös ihka ensimmäisen kotiinkuljetus pizzani!! Se oli aika suolaista mutta ihan ok / I also ordered my very first home delivery pizza!! It's was quite salty but ok

Perjantaina vietin melkein 4 tuntia Seinäjoen kirjastossa. Odotin bussi että se veisi minut Tampereelle. 4 tuntia! Voitko kuvitella! :D / On Friday I spent almost 4 hours at the Seinäjoki library. I was waiting the buss to take me to Tampere. 4 hours! Can you imagine! :D

Onneksi minulla oli Isäntä kotona pitämässä minusta huolta. Hän teki minulle ihania aamiaisia ja hoiti minua <3 color="#ff0000" font="" h="" min="" nt="" rakastan=""> Luckily I had my partner to take care of me at home. He made me wonderful breakfasts and took care of me <3 font="" him="" i="" love="">

This pile of yarn is going to be socks. On weekend I did nothing but sat on the couch, watched TV and knitted (and coughed) . But I had to start over the sock because it was made wrong and to crown it all the yarn got messed up -_- I spend a lot of time sorting it out.

I got flue. Well, actually I think this is cough. My nose doesn't leak as much as it has leaked before but I'm coughing more than in many years. I don't like this.

Luckily I didn't have much school last week, so I could just lie on my bed and watch Friends.

So, I didn't do much last week... But, today I got practice job place! I'm going to Uusikaupunki library! Yay :)

The sad thing was that I was going to start exercising last week but obviously I couldn't :( I did exercise on Monday and Tuesday too but on Wednesday I made a mistake. I tried out Grease's dances but I was already sick then. And this isn't the first time this happens -_- Starting exercising is already hard for me and it doesn't help that every time I decide I'll start exercising I become sick. It's annoying!

Joseph Conrad - Pimeyden sydän / Heart of Darkness

Pimeyden sydän on puolalais-englantilaisen kirjailijan Josep Conradin (1857-1924) kuuluisimpia teoksia. Afrikan kuvauksena Pimeyden sydän on alansa voittamattomia klassikkoja.

Description from goodreads.com:

Dark allegory describes the narrator's journey up the Congo River and his meeting with, and fascination by, Mr. Kurtz, a mysterious personage who dominates the unruly inhabitants of the region. Masterly blend of adventure, character development, psychological penetration. Considered by many Conrad's finest, most enigmatic story.

I read this book for my World Literature course, the theme was British literature.

While reading the description I can't stop thinking of that I've read a very different book, although I think the book was the same.

This was the longest and most boring 160 sided book I've ever read!

I just couldn't stay awake while reading this book and I couldn't concentrate on it. My thoughts were somewhere else all the time. There's three chapters in the book and they are very long. And it didn't help the readability that the text was very meandering and some of the paragraphs were many pages long.

I understood nothing of the book. It wasn't clear to me who were all the people, where were they, what they did and why. Based on the cover, they were in Africa, but in my opinion, they could have been anywhere in the world. Those small description of hippos, ivory and Negroes (as the book addresses) gives you a faint clue that they are actually in Africa.

The only thing that stuck in my mind was the part where the storyteller is very worried about some clinch nails... (or something like that?) There where a few pages about those things. But I did never find out why he needed those, but apparently they were very important clinch nails...

Why this is a classic? I have no clue. Maybe this is just one of those books which are classics just because they are so old, but nobody reads them anymore, but maybe it's still a classic because it was much read many years ago. The book I borrowed supports that theory, I got the book from the library's storehouse.

Viikko raportti / Week raport

English below

Minulla on viisi kuukautta aikaa päästä kuntoon.

Toivon tosissani, että he ottaisivat minut.

Tänä keväänä meillä on taas kirjallisuus kurssi, tällä kertaa Maailman kirjallisuutta. Meillä on 8 kirjaa luettavana.

Viikonloppuna olimme Turussa hostel/ravintola laiva S/S Boressa.

The neighbor kids made cool snowmen one day!

Tämän aterian söimme uutena vuotena :) / This was our New Years Eve dinner :)

Tein elämäni ensimmäiset pitsisukat! / I made my first lace socks!

Tämän kauniin taulun sain lahjakkaalta siskontytöltäni joululahjaksi. Oli itse tehnyt <3 color="#ff0000" font=""> This beautiful painting I got for Christmas from my niece. She made it herself <3 font="">

Tältä pöytäni näyttää tällä hetkellä / This is how my table looks now

Voitin tämän kirjan arvonnasta / I won this book from the draw
S/S Bore

Konehuoneessa oli salaperäinen ovi, jonka toiselta puolelta löytyy kai romua :D / This door was in the engine room and apparently, behind it, there's rubbish :D (romua = rubbish)

Nämä kirjat pitäisi lukea tänä keväänä / These are the books I'll have to read this spring

Pieni maistainen VOCAL!in tulevasta ohjelmistosta :) / A sneak peek from VOCAL!'s new repertory

Onnittelukortti vastasyntyneelle poikavauvalle / A greeting card for new born baby boy

Tein nämä töppöset samaiselle vauvalle / I made these baby booties for the same baby boy

Synttärikortti "anopille" / A birthday card for my "mother-in-law"

Vain jokin kortti :) / Just another card :)

So, the first week of school is behind and the second week is starting. It feels like there was no holiday at all. At least my timetable is very loose, yet.

Last week I had my choirs and music theatre. We are starting to rehearsal VOCAL!'s Spring show and we already have some gigs coming for VOCAL! and also for CULT. In my music theatre group Salama, we started to rehearsal for our musical. We started with one of the dances - PMS Blues :) We still don't have a plot or script, but we are on it.

We also had rehearsal for Grease musical, singing and dancing. I must admit that I'm in a bad shape. Almost three hours dancing was fun, but tough. I managed it, but I should be also singing at the same time and very high notes! That wouldn't have been possible last week. I really have to start exercising. I have five months to get in shape.

Now it's also the time to look for practice job for my qualification. I already sent an application to Uusikaupunki library, which is my first choice. I really hope they would take me. If I don't hear from them before Wednesday, I will call them.

This spring we have again a literature course, this time it's World literature. We have 8 books to read. The problem is that the whole class reads the same 8 books, so it's very difficult to get the books because there's only few of them in the library. I luckily got all the books from Hervanta library so I can lend them to my classmates when I've first read them. The second problem is that we don't know in which order we should read the books, because we don't have our timetables far enough. So, good luck with the course then... We have four different teachers and the course seemed interesting, but the implementation is already bad. We'll see how it goes.

On weekend we were at Turku in hostel/restaurant boat S/S Bore. My mother and her partner had a birthday party there. There were a lot of new people and it was fun time. We got to know the boat, ate good food, talked and sang karaoke.

I've also made some cards finally! Not Christmas cards but birthday cards. I left all of my stuff on the table so I can make them whenever I'll have little time.

This spring might get quite busy again. I have two musicals and one choir show + few other songs to learn for CULTs performances. It's going to be interesting spring!

Richard Adams - Ruohometsän kansa / Watership Down

English below

Ruohometsän kansa, Watership Down, on tarina kaikenikäisille, jännittävä, liikuttava, riemastuttava koko perheen lukuteos, jonka suosiosta kertovat myös monet suuret kansainväliset palkinnot.

Olen ihmeissäni miten tutulta kirjan tarina vaikuttaa.

Pidin kirjasta valtavasti! Odotankin innolla kakkoskirjan, Ruohometsän tarinoita, lukemista. Tämän kirjan sain onneksi nautiskella loppuun hitaasti ja hartaasti kuten olisin halunnut tehdä jo monelle muullekin kirjalle kurssien aikana, mutta siihen ei ollut mahdollisuutta tiukan aikataulun takia.

Description from Goodreads.com:

A phenomenal worldwide bestseller for over thirty years, Richard Adams's Watership Down is a timeless classic and one of the most beloved novels of all time. Set in England's Downs, a once idyllic rural landscape, this stirring tale of adventure, courage and survival follows a band of very special creatures on their flight from the intrusion of man and the certain destruction of their home. Led by a stouthearted pair of friends, they journey forth from their native Sandleford Warren through the harrowing trials posed by predators and adversaries, to a mysterious promised land and a more perfect society.

I started this book a long, long time ago, but I think that I didn't read more than the first chapter. Now I finally read the whole book. I read this for my Literature genres course. I had to make a blog post about the book. I did, but only about the first part of the book.

This was such a lovely book! This was the first real classic I really loved!

I was surprised that the story seemed so familiar. I don't know why. I might have seen the movie which is based on the book, but I'm not sure. I have no memory of the movie except some very dim memories, but I'm not sure if I confuse them with a TV series called The Animals of Farthing Wood. I think that this TV series was quite the same as the Watership Down. To be sure about this I'll need to see the movie and also the series. I did find out that in the movie there's red eyed, black, cannibal rabbits. In the book there's no such things, at least not in this first book. I'm not sure if they are in the second book or are they just movie makers invention.

First I wondered why this book is in fantasy genre but after reading it awhile I found that it definitely belonged there. At least I can't place it anywhere else. In the book you'll get to know the world, habits and language of the rabbits. I believe that the book is quite biological accurate. Although, I don't know enough about rabbits to be sure, but the world seems believable. In itself it's not a new world in the book, it's the world we know, but only seen with rabbit's point of view. In some manners rabbits are quite the same as we humans are, for example they have a very strict hierarchy. The life of a rabbit seems very brutal. So there is some violence and killing in the book. Threat is everywhere caused mainly by the rabbits themselves but also by the enemies of the rabbits, elil. There's also very cruel events with blood and scary moments in the book.

Maybe because of the violence and racy language, it makes you think, who is this books audience. First you would think that this is children novel and I think that you could read this for children but not for very young and definitely you should not let a young child read this without an adult. This would be good book for youth, especially if they like animals. For adults who read fantasy or who like animal novels I think this book is already familiar, but I'm not sure if others would find it. Of course it helps that this is a classic, but I don't think it would be as much read if it weren't. And that would be a shame because it's a wonderful book!

I liked this very much! I'm eagerly waiting to read the second book, Tales from Watership Down. Luckily I got to finish this book with time and pleasure just like I would have liked to finish many other books too during the courses, but that just wasn't possible because of the tight timetable I had.

Rake Tähtinen - Tapettu illuusio

English below

Takakansi:

Romaani rikoksesta, johon motiivi löytyy useammalta henkilöltä.

Ravintolayrittäjä Tugrul Ereneriä piinaa kiusaaja. Samaan aikaan paikallislehden toimittaja Carita Appelgren haluaa lopettaa avioliiton ulkopuolisen suhteen esimieheensä, joka ei kaihda keinoja naisen pään kääntämiseksi.

Asunnonvaihtoa kaavaileva ja uutta vakavaa parisuhdettaan aloitteleva Petäjämäki kollegoineen joutuu keskelle järkyttäviä tapahtumia, jotka näyttävät vuoroin erillisiltä ja vuoroin toisiinsa linkittyviltä rikoksilta.

Mikä yhteys tähän kaikkeen on Sachsenhausenin keskitysleirin vuoden 1943 tapahtumilla?

Tapettu Illuusio on neljäs kirja Rake Tähtisen Petäjämäki dekkarisarjassa.

Back cover:

A novel about a crime with many suspects.

Restaurant entrepreneur Tugrul Erener is tormented by a bully. At the same time Carita Appelgren, a reporter, would like to end her adulterous affair with her boss, who doesn't shirk ways to turn her mind.

While thinking of moving and starting a new serious relationship, Petäjämäki and his colleagues end up in the middle of shocking events which at times seems like separate and other times seems to link together.

And how this all links together with the events in Sachenhausen death camp in 1943?

Tapettu illuusio (killed illusion) is the fourth book in the Petäjämäki detective novel series by Rake Tähtinen.

I read this book too long. I started the book on August 2014 and ended it today on 8th of January, 2015. It wasn't because the book was boring – vice versa. I just had a punch of other books which I had to read. I mean all those books earlier which I had to read for school. So this book was abandoned.

This was typical Petäjämäki book with themes like racism, cheating, mental violence and manipulation.

But the book is a little bit different because there's a side story among the main story which takes place in a death camp in 1943, and the stories link together later.

The book keeps you in its grip and you'll get to solve the mystery yourself too. I liked the book as much as I liked the other Petäjämäki series. But I must admit, I'm not quite sure if the crime was solved altogether. It's been a while when I read the book last time and I don't remember all of the twists in the investigations. But it might also be that this time, the crime wasn't solved as a whole. That's real life.

Emmi Itäranta - Teemestarin kirja

English below

Takakansi:
Maailmasta on loppumassa vesi.

Aikana, jona veden kätkeminen on rikoksista pahin, sotilasvallan katse kiinittyy väistämättä teemestarin taloon...

Luin tämän kirjan Kirjallisuuden genret -kurssia varten. Kirjasta piti kirjoittaa blogipostaus kurssin blogiin. Tämä samainen kirjoitus löytyy LukeVille blogista.

Mira kertoikin jo aikaisemmin samaisesta kirjasta, joten en toista samoja asioita.

Back cover:

Water is ending from the world. Enormous disaster, maybe climate change, has shaken the mankind and now humans are holding out with shortage of water and with water regulations which are ruled over by dictatorship. Only things that has been embedded on the dump for generations and Tea masters' journals are the only memory of the past.

Noria is related to the Tea masters and soon she's accepting the title of the fully authorized Tea master and also she'll became the keeper of her predecessors' secret. During, when hiding water is the worst crime you could make, the military rule will turn their eyes inevitably towards Tea master's house...

I read this book for my Literature genres course. I had to make a blog post about the book for the course's blog. You can find this same post from the blog LukeVille.

Mira already told about the same book earlier so I won't repeat her.

This was a fine book. First, I was afraid that I would get disappointed because I heard good and bad about the book (mostly good though). I've also never really liked dystopia, at least I'm not very fond of dystopia movies. Don't get me wrong, most of the movies are good and interesting etc. but the worlds and their injustice is too much for me and I'll get really angry and after the movies I'll need some time to calm down.

In this book the world is also very unjust and rotten. The scariest thing is that this could be the reality someday (like all dystopia I've got to know). This time the difference was that everything happened in Finland which only increased the tense. But still the book isn't so oppressive it might have been. Actually the dystopia didn't troubled me as much as the movies does. I'm not sure if it was because it was book not movie, or if it was just written so well. Maybe I should read more books about dystopia and not only watch movies, maybe I could handle books better.

Mira told in her own post that she was a little bit disappointed to the book. In her opinion it was lacking the climax. I think I understand what Mira meant, but I still think that the book had a climax (luckily, I was afraid to read the book because of Mira's post :D). Of course, the book could have ended differently and in my opinion it could have make a cool trilogy or at least one sequel if things would have gone in a different way. Actually, I was hoping it would have ended differently because Mira revealed one thing from the book which I was afraid of while reading. Noria finds out a secret, but you'll never going to find out what it was. I hate books which ends like that (and lately I've been reading a lot of them). But this was a good book and it worked by itself, although, I hoped for sequel/s.

Sari Peltoniemi - Suomu

English below

Takakansi:

Löysin Oonan ajatusten kautta saamistani tiedonjyvistä paljon samaa mitä on omassa isässäni. Oonan isä on mitä luultavamminkin masentunut alkoholisti ellei jopa maanis-depressiivinen alkoholisti. Asimov on koira. Miksi tätä tietoa piti pimittää viimeisille sivuille?

Minun on todella vaikea sanoa tästä kirjasta mitään.

Description from the back cover:

Oona is so furious that she walks straight up to the lake with her clothes on and swims further away than ever before. Something scratches Oona so she gets a deep wound. At the opposite shore the scenery has changed and people seems strange. Oona finds out that the President of Finland is J. K. Paasikivi and nobody has a cell phone. Oona believes she has traveled back in time, but soon she'll notice that something else is also wrong.

This was the other book for my Children and youth literature course's assignment. Here is the part from my essay where I discuss about the book.

If The Other Side of Silence was nicely strange book, this was annoyingly strange book.

The subject was in itself interesting and it jumped from genre to genre, there's historical, sci-fi, fantasy, thrill and even horror. It tells some about the odd world the book takes place, but there's just too much things the author doesn't tell.

The story is told from the main characters', Oona's, point of view and sometimes she tells the story herself. Oona is annoying. She seems naive and moody. In a way, the moody part is explicable because of the teenage, but mostly it's just the teenaged girl's own superficiality.

The book rouses a lot of questions which should be asked and which you would believe Oona to ask and be interested about, but there's no answers and not even the right questions. Of course there's some questions, but there's no proper answers, so the discussion ends as soon as it started. I got the feeling that Oona really wasn't interested to find out about the different world she was in, which however resembled a lot of Finland. If I would be in the same situation I would have liked to know more about the world and I would have made a lot more questions and demanded answers. Now it feels like the author was just being lazy and couldn't bother to tell about her world she made or maybe she didn't really know what the world was like in its entirety.

There were a lot of problems in this world. Luckily, Oona notices many of the flaws and she wonders why anybody did nothing to fix them. But Oona wasn't ready to do anything herself either. It also annoys me that everybody told Oona that she is meant to change things, but they'll say no more, ”you're going to change our lives, but we won't tell you anything about our lives”.

This book was written sloppy, and more sloppy it was because of the sloppy love story the author tries to tell at the end of the book. Yes, it is sweet and it praises difference, but it was unnecessary especially if you start to think how much answers those pages could have given to you instead of a clumsy love story. And there wasn't a real function to the love story, it was just a nice idea and of course, there had to be love story somewhere.

I also got confused because at the beginning of the book Oona thoughts all the time someone who she refers to as ”you”. At times, in those thoughts there's also a name Asimov. Luckily, reader gets to know quite soon that ”you” is Oona's father. He is interesting person. From the little morsel of information I found out is that Oona's father was a little bit like my father. Presumably, Oona's father was depressed alcoholic, maybe even manic-depressive. She has a close relationship with him, even though she is bothered about her father's illness. I'm kind of a jealous of their relationship which I had also with my father a long time ago, more or less. In my opinion, this is the finest and the warmest thing in the book. And finally, reader gets to know who, or what, Asimov is, although just before the book ends. Asimov is a dog. Now, why on earth the author had to conceal this information all the way to the end pages?

It's really hard for me to say anything about this book. I just couldn't get hang of it. It was entertaining and nice to read, but I believe it could have been better.
