Sain jokin aika sitten kirjahaasteen koulukaveriltani Tiialta Tiian kirjakammiosta.

Ei muuta kuin suoraan kysymyksiin! Ne ovat kinkkisiä! Erittäin haastavia! Yritetään!

1.       Kirja / Kirjasarja, josta muut pitävät mutta sinä et?
Voi taivas! Mikä kysymys tämä oikein on!? :D Ja toiset eivät ole yhtään sen helpompia. Tässä saattaa mennä hetki...
Ehkä sanon saman kirjan kuin Tiia, mutta eri kysymyksessä. Toisin kuin Tiia, minä vihasin Joseph Conradin Pimeyden sydäntä. Meidän piti lukea se koulua varten ja se oikeastaan jakoi luokkamme kahtia :D

2.       Kirja / Kirjasarja, josta sinä pidät, mutta muut eivät?
Tämä on vielä hankalampi. Minun piti kysyä apua ystävältäni kun en vain saannut ainuttakaan päähäni, hän auttoi ja sanoi, että löysi Goodreadsista, että olin antanut Ida Sammaliston Tähtimosaiikille viisi tähteä ja hän kaksi. Uskon, että tämä lasketaan :D

3.       Kolmiodraama, jossa päähenkilö päätyy yhteen sen kanssa, jonka et olisi halunnut?
Kolmiodraama? Olenko lukenut ainuttakaan kirjaa jossa on kolmiodraama? Luultavasti, mutta minua ei yleensä kiinnosta hahmojen rakkaussuhteen paljoakaan... Olen toki lukenut Jane Austenin Järki ja tunteet, mutta pakko myöntää, etten muista kirjasta paljoakaan joten siitä ei ole nyt apua :D Onko J.K. Rowlingin Harry Potterissa kolmiodraama? No, onhan siinä! En pitänyt siitä kun Hermione teki Ronin mustasukkaiseksi menemällä joulutanssiaisiin Krumin kanssa. Minusta hänen olisi oikeasti pitänyt mennä Ronin kanssa vaikka Ron olikin aika ääliö välillä :D En myöskään pitänyt siitä kun Harry ja Cho seurustelivat. He eivät olleet kovin sopiva pari. Suosin enemmän Ginnyä :)

4.       Suosittu kirjagenre, josta et pidä / josta haluaisit, muttet vain pysty?
Dekkarit. Tuntuu, että jokainen suomalainen on hulluna dekkareihin mutta minua ne eivät vain kiinnosta. Luen toki H.Y. Hannan The Big Honey Dog Mysteries ja Rake Tähtisen kirjoja mutta se riittää. Haluaisin kyllä kokeilla vielä lisää Agatha Chriestietä. Pidin todella hänen kirjastaan Eikä yksikään pelastunut.

5.       Pidetty, suosittu tai rakastettu hahmo, josta et pidä?
Uppo-Nalle, todellakin, Elina Karjalaisen kehittelemä hahmo on yksi vihatuimpiani, mutta ilmeisesti hyvin rakastettu monen muun toimesta, ainakin luulen niin, ainakin kirjat ovat suosittuja, tai ainakin olivat. En oikein tiedä enää. Olen lukenut yhden kirjan ja se riitti, omistan jopa tuon kirjan. Uppo-Nalle on vain niin ärsyttävä ja ylimielinen, oikeastaan en pitänyt kenestäkään tarinan hahmoista. En edes koirasta! Se on harvinaista!

6.       Kirjailija josta monet pitävät mutta sinä et?
Uskon, että näitä on paljonkin. Haluaisin sanoa kuitenkin Jari Tervon vaikka en olekaan lukenut häneltä kuin yhden kirjan ja yhden novellin. Pidin novellista mutta kirjasta en. Kyseessä oli hänen esikoisensa Pohjan hovi. En tiedä miksi, mutta tuon kirjan jälkeen poistin Tervon lukulistaltani. Ehkä minun pitäisi kokeilla häntä vielä uudestaan, mutta jokin estää minua. En tiedä miksi mutta hän ei vain kiinnosta minua, mutta monia muita kylläkin.

7.       Suosittu sarja jonka lukemiseen sinulla ei ole mielenkiintoa?
Uskon, että näitäkin on monia. Pitäisi vain yrittää saada edes yksikin mieleen :D On vaikea yrittää miettiä kirjoja joista ei ole kiinnostunut :D Ehkä haluaisin sanoa kuitenkin Stephenie Meyerin Houkutus. Vaikkakin, minun ehkä PITÄISI lukea se suuren hypetyksen takia. Mutta en usko, että sarja olisi kovin mielenkiintoinen minusta... Toisaalta taas sarjan lukeminen houkuttaa, mutta toisaalta en jaksaisi vaivautua. Sen sijaan on niin paljon muita mielenkiintoisempia kirjoja luettavana.

8.       Kirja joka on huonompi kuin siitä tehty elokuva?
Olen TODELLA pahoillani, tiedän, että jotkut olisivat valmiit tappamaan minut tämän tunnustuksen jälkeen mutta… Pidin todella paljon enemmän J.R.R. Tolkienin Taru Sormusten Herrasta elokuvasta kuin kirjasta. Olen pahoillani! Minä yritin! Todellakin yritin! Oli ihme että sain edes kirjan luettua. Luin sen kauan ennen kuin sain lukuintoni. Se oli ok, älä käsitä väärin, pidin kyllä kirjasta, mutta se oli vain liian tylsä minulle tuolloin. Ehkä minun pitäisi kokeilla sitä uudestaan. Ehkä teen sen kanssa saman kuin aion tehdä Harry Potterin kanssa. Ajattelin lukea kirjan ja katsoa sen jälkeen elokuvan heti perään. Yksi kerrallaan. Mutta epäilen silti, että LOTR elokuvat ovat mielestäni parempia. Joka tapauksessa katsoin elokuvat ennen kuin luin kirjat (oliko se virhe? Ehkä), ja ne ovat antaneet minulle niin paljon elokuvina. Minulla ei ole mitään erikoista sidettä kirjoihin, mutta elokuviin kyllä. Ne olivat minulle hurja inspiraation lähde ja minulla on niin paljon hyviä muistoja niistä. Ne ovat tärkeitä minulle.

Huh, mikä haaste! Tämä oli vaikeaa :D Katsotaanpas ketä kiusaan seuraavaksi tällä haasteella.

So, to the questions! They were very tricky! Very challenging! Let’s try out!

1.       A book / book series which others liked, but you didn’t?
Oh my god! What kind of question is that!? :D And the other questions aren’t any easier. This might take a while…
Well, I think I can mention the same book as did Tiia,but in different question. Unlike Tiia, I hated Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. We had to read it for school and it kind of split our class half :D

2.       A book / book series that you liked, but others didn’t?
This is more tricky. I had to ask little help from my friend because I just couldn’t remember any, but she helped and said she found out on Goodreads that I had given Tähtimosaiikki by Ida Sammalisto five stars and she had given two. I think that counts :D

3.       A love triangle where the main character ends up with someone you didn’t approve?
Love triangle? Have I read any books with a love triangle? Probably, but I really don’t care about most character’s love affairs… I have read Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen but I must admit I can’t remember anything about the book, so not helping :D Does Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling have love triangle in it? Oh, yes there is! I didn’t like when Hermione made Ron jealous by going to the Christmas ball with Krum. I thought she really should have gone with Ron, although he was a bit ass at times :D  And I never liked when Harry and Cho dated. They just weren’t nice couple. I preferred Ginny :)

4.       Popular book genre which you don’t like / you would like to like, but you just can’t?
Detective stories. It seems almost every Finn is nuts about these, but I just haven’t got into them. I do read The Big Honey Dog Mysteries by H.Y. Hanna and books by Rake Tähtinen, but that’s it. Although, I would like to try Agatha Christie more. I really liked her book And then there were none.

5.       Liked, popular or loved character which others like, but you don’t?
Uppo-Nalle, definitely, created by Elina Karjalainen, is one of my hated characters, but he’s so loved by many others, I think, at least the books are popular, or at least were. I don’t know anymore. I’ve read one book and that was enough, I even own that book. He’s so annoying and arrogant and actually I didn’t really like the other characters too. Not even the dog! That’s rare!

6.       An author most like, but you don’t?
I’m sure there’s a lot of these. I would like to say Jari Tervo, even though I have read only one book from him and one short story. I liked the short story but not the book. It was his first book, Pohjan hovi. I don’t know why, but I just deleted him from my reading list after that. Maybe I should try him more, but something is stopping me. I don’t know why he just doesn’t interest me, but he does so many others.

7.       A popular book series which you are not interested of reading?
I think there’s lot of these too. I just have to think one :D It’s hard to think about books you’re not interested of :D I would like to say Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Although, I think I SHOULD read it because of the hype. But I really don’t think it would be that interesting for me… On the other hand, I’m tempted to read it, but on the other, I can’t just be bothered. There’s so many really interesting books to read instead.

8.       A book which was worse than the movie made from it?
I’m REALLY sorry, I know that some would like to kill me after this confession but… I really liked the movies more in The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. I’m sorry! I tried! I really tried! It’s a miracle I finished the book. I read it before the time I really got excited about reading. It was ok, don’t get me wrong, I did like the book, but it was just too boring for me at that time. Maybe I should try it again. Maybe I’ll do the same thing as I’m going to do with Harry Potter. I would like to read the book and then watch the movie right after finishing the book. One at a time. But I doubt, I would still like the LOTR movies more. After all, I watched them before reading the books (was it mistake? Maybe), and they gave me much more in that form. I don’t have special bond with the books, but I do have with the movies. They were a huge inspiration for me and I have so much memories related to them. They are special to me.

What a challenge!! This was hard for me :D Let’s see whom I would like to tease with this.

Tämä taitaa olla ensimmäinen sarjakuva arvioni. En ainakaan muista kirjoittaneeni aikaisemmin.

Jarlalla on ihan omintakeinen huumorinsa. Vaikka en pidäkään hänen piirtotyylistään, pidän hänen huumoristaan. Valitsen yleensä sarjakuvani piirtojäljen perusteella joten Jarla on tässä tapauksessa poikkeus valinnoissani. En ole kauheasti hänen sarjakuviaan vielä lukenut, mitä nyt satunnaisesti lehdistä. Pienen albumin lukeminen oli kuitenkin mukavaa.

Albumissa oli mukana myös muita sarjakuvapiirtäjiä – Ulf Lundkvist, Jukka Tilsa, Tex Hänninen, Ari Kutila, Karstein Volle ja Harri Pystynen. Osan tunnistin (kuten Tex Hännisen PupuAnkka) mutta en ole kenenkään strippejä lukenut paljoakaan. Näidenkin kohdalla samasta syystä, en pidä piirtojäljestä, mutta suurin osa oli kuitenkin ihan OK. En tosin saanut oikein Ari Kutilan Mustapukuinen mies –stripin ideasta kiinni. Olihan se ihan nokkelaa mutta ei tarpeeksi huvittamaan minua. Mutta kaikki olivat silti OK, ainakin pieninä annoksina.

Minun pitäisi kyllä lukea enemmänkin Fingerporia joku päivä.

This might be my first comic review here. At least I don’t remember of doing one.

Jarla has his own humour. Even though I don’t really like his drawings I like his humour. I usually pick comics by how they are drawn so Jarla is exceptional choice for me. I haven’t really read much of his comics, just occasionally from the newsletters. Reading a small album was nice.

Although, there were some other cartoonist featured in the small collection – Ulf Lundkvist, Jukka Tilsa, Tex Hänninen, Ari Kutila, Karstein Volle and Harri Pystynen. I recognised some of them (like PupuAnkka from Tex Hänninen) but I haven’t read any of their comics much. Again, the same reason, I don’t like their drawings, but they were most OK. I didn’t quite get the idea of Ari Kutila’s Mustapukuinen mies (Man in black). It was clever but not enough to humour me. But all of them were OK, with a small portion at a time.

I should definitely try more Fingerpori someday.

Kirjan tekijät ovat 14-uotiaita ystävyksiä. Heidän Hullu Luokkansa kertoo ysiluokkalaisista. Se on autenttista koulukohellusta nuorten omalla ainutkertaisella kielellä.

Parempi myöhään kuin ei milloinkaan, vai mitä? Minulle suositeltiin tätä kirjaa jo kun olin itse yläasteella, n. 15 vuotta sitten. Rakas ystäväni suositteli tätä minulle ja sanoi että se oli hervoton! En ymmärrä miksi en ole tarttunut kirjaan aikaisemmin. Siinä on vain 72 sivuakin! Olen ajatellut kirjaa paljon vuosien saatossa mutta silti jostain syystä se aina jäi kirjaston hyllylle ja tein tai luin jotain muuta... Pelkään, että odotin liian kauan.

Minun oli pakko ottaa kirja mukaani kun näin sen poistohyllyssä kirjastossa jossa olin kesätöissä tänä kesänä. Odottaessani, että koneeni päivittyy Windows 10:een luin vihdoin tämän pienen kirjan!

Olin odottanut liian kauan… En ole ihan varma olisiko kirja ollut yhtään sen parempi 2000-luvun alussa luettuna kun itse oli yläasteella… En tiedä. Nyt kirja oli vain surkeasti kirjoitettu kirjan kyhäelmä. Selvästi 14-vuotiaiden kirjoittama. Minulla ei ole hajuakaan miten tämä on ikinä päätynyt kustantajalle asti...

Mutta en halua luovuttaa kirjan suhteen. Sarjassa on muitakin kirjoja ja tämä oli ensimmäinen. Aion silti lukea loputkin kirjat, joskus. Kirjassa oli kyllä potentiaalia, mutta ehkä tyttöjen olisi kannattanut odottaa muutama vuosi ja haudutella ideaa enemmän ja sitten kirjoittaa kirja kun myös kirjoittamisesta on kertynyt enemmän kokemusta. En usko, että se olisi silti kadottanut ”autenttista nuorten kieltään” vaikka se olisikin kirjoitettu myöhemmin. On paljon kirjoja joiden kirjoittajat ovat nuoria aikuisia tai aikuisia ja silti he eivät ole kadottaneet ”nuorta ääntään”.

The authors of this book are two 14 year old friends. Their Crazy Class tells about ninth graders. It’s authentic bustle about school with the unique language of the young.

Better late than never, right? This book was recommended to me when I was at upper secondary school myself, about 15 years ago. My dear friend recommended it to me and said it was hilarious! I have no idea why I didn’t ever take the book for reading. It has only 72 pages in it! I thought about the book a lot, but somehow I always left it in the library shelf and did or read something else… I’m afraid I waited too long.

I had to bring the book with me when I found it at the library’s removal shelf when I was working there this summer. While waiting updating my computer to Windows 10 I read this small book finally!

I had waited too long… I’m not sure if the book would have been better in early 2000’s when I was at upper secondary school myself… I don’t know. Now it just was poorly written the rudiment of a book. Clearly written by two 14 year olds. I really don’t know how this got published…

But I don’t want to give up on the book. There’s other books on the series and this was the first one. I’m still going to read the others too, someday. There was a potential in it, but maybe the girls should have waited a few more years and brew the idea more and then write it when they would have had more experience on writing. I don’t think it would have lost its “authentic voice of the young” even if they would have written it later. There’s a lot of books written by young adults or adults which haven’t lost their “young voice”.

Tällä arvoituksia täynnä olevalla novellikokoelmalla voit juhlistaa lempi juhlapäiviäsi etsivä tanskandoggi Honeyn ja hänen koiraystäviensä kanssa. Tarinassa Night of Flying Shadows (Tummien varjojen yö) karmiva vieras johdattaa koirat vaaralliselle tehtävälle kummitusmetsään halloween iltana. Sen jälkeen Honey ja hänen ystävänsä löytävät itsensä ratkaisemassa arvoituksellista viestiä talvisena jouluna tarinassa Message in a Bauble (Viesti kuusenkoristeessa). Ja tarinassa Treasure from the Past (Aarre menneisyydestä) koiraetsivät kiirehtivät ratkaistakseen kauan kadoksissa olleen salaisuuden pääsiäisenä. Ota hyvä asento ja nauti tästä täydellisestä kokoelmasta kaikenikäisille koiranystäville!

Mukava kolmen tarinan kokoelma. Uskon, että pidin ensimmäisestä, halloween teemaisesta, eniten. Kaikki olivat nopealukuisia ja olisin voinut lukea niitä pidempäänkin, mutta silloin ne eivät olisi novelleja vai mitä.

En vieläkään saanut kunnon otetta Tysonista… En todellakaan tiedä miksi. Hänellä oli toki muutama rohkea terrier momenttinsa tällä kertaa, mutta silti… Tyson parka, haluaisin todella tutustua häneen enemmän.

Tällä kertaa tarinoissa oli muutama juoniongelma. Tarinassa Message in Bauble en saanut kunnon otetta myöskään Jonesista. Hänet esitettiin aluksi jonkinlaisena tarinan pahiksena, mutta asiaa ei sen enempää oikein puitu. Uskon, että tarinassa olisi ollut isompaa poptentiaalia. Sama juttu Treasure from the Past tarinassa. Alussa puhuttiin noidasta, mutta tämä paljastuikin heti vain vanhaksi naiseksi. Toki ymmärrän, että novelleissa pitää päästä itse asiaan nopeasti, mutta jos tarinassa kerta olisi potentiaalia isommaksikin, miksi pitää tyytyä novelliin?

Kaiken kaikkiaan pidin kuitenkin kaikista tarinoita paljon ja haluan lisää!

Lovely collection of three short stories. I think I liked the first one most, the Halloween story. All were quick to read and I would have liked even more reading, but then they wouldn’t have been short stories, would they.

I still can’t get a good grip of Tyson… I really don’t know why. He did have some terrier bravery jobs in the stories this time but still… Poor Tyson, I would really like to know him better.

There were some few plot problems this time. In Message in Bauble I also didn’t get good grip of Jones. He was introduced as bad guy but it was kind of cut short. I think there would have been a big potential for bigger story in this. Same thing with the Treasure from the Past. At the beginning there was a talk about witch but she turned up to be just an old woman in very short time. Of course I understand that you’ll need to get into business quickly in short stories but if there’s potential for much bigger then why just stick with a short story?

Overall, I still enjoyed all of the stories very much and I want more!

Täytyy myöntää, että pidin tästä kirjasta jopa enemmän kuin ensimmäisestä! Se tuntui etenevän paljon jouhevammin, hahmot olivat mielenkiintoisia ja syvällisiä, arvoitus oli ovela ja sitä tavallaan tiesi ketä syyttää mutta kuitenkaan ei joten lopussa oli yllätys, oikeastaan kaksikin.

Rakastin kirjan hahmoja. Ruffsterin ja Coletten “rakkaustarina” oli myös todella suloinen. Pidin todella Colettesta, en vain tiedä miksi, se nyt vain oli hyvä hahmo. Toivottavasti tapaisimme hänet vielä joskus ihan Ruffsterinkin takia. Aloin myös pitämään enemmän ja enemmän Sukasta. Sukan ja hänen poikansa side on kyllä jotain todella upeaa. Haluaisin samanlaisen siteen oman tulevan koirani välille.

Tässä kirjassa ei ollut Tysonia mutta minun on pakko myöntää, että en melkein muistanut koko hahmoa. Muistelen sanoneeni aikaisemmin, kun luin ensimmäistä kirjaa, että hahmo vaikutti hieman turhalta. Uskon, että viisi koiraa on jo tarpeeksi jotta niihin voisi tutustua tarpeeksi hyvin jokaiseen. En oikein saanut kunnon otetta Tysonista ensimmäisessä kirjassa joten en oikein kaivannut häntä tässäkään. Minulla on toki vielä novellit lukematta joten katsotaan jos Tyson olisi hyödyllisempi niissä.

Minun pitäisi todella saada lisää tunteja päiviini jotta voisin alkaa edes ajattelemaan kirjojen suomentamista. En ole kovin hyvä kääntäjä saati sitten kirjailija, mutta voisin kuitenkin yrittää, ihan vain huvin vuoksi. Ja jos jälki onkin hyvää niin sitä voisi yrittää saada kirjan suomalaisille markkinoille jos se olisi ok Hsin-Yille. Mutta se ei tule tapahtumaan vielä lähi tulevaisuudessa. Minulla on niin paljon kaikkea muutakin ja koska en ole ammatti kääntäjä tai kirjailija, ei kääntäminen ole myöskään ensimmäisenä listallani.

Toivon todella, että Big Honey Dog Mysteries –kirjoja tulisi lisää. Pidän niistä todella. Toivottavasti Hsin-Yi kirjoittaisi lisää pian.

I must say, I liked this book even more than the first one! It seemed to go on more fluently, the characters were interesting and deep, the mystery was clever and you kind of guessed who was to blame but not entirely so there was a surprise, two of them actually, in the end.

I just loved the characters in this book. The “love story” between Ruffster and Colette was such a sweet thing. I really liked Colette, I just don’t know why, she just was wonderful character. I hope we could meet her someday again, and of course for Ruffster’s sake too. I also started to love Suka even more. The bond which she and her boy has is something amazing. I want that kind of bond too with my future dog.

In this book there wasn’t Tyson in it, but I must admit that I almost didn’t remember the whole character. I think I might have said earlier, when I read the first book that, it seemed a little unnecessary character. I think that five dogs are already enough to really get yourself to know every character deeply enough. I didn’t get a good grip of Tyson at the first book so I really wasn’t missing him in this book. I still have the short stories to read so let’s see if he’s more useful in those.

I would really need to get some extra time in my days so I could start really think of translating these books into Finnish. I’m not a very good translator or author but I could try, just for fun. And if it’s good enough I could maybe try to get the book in Finnish markets if that would be ok with Hsin-Yi of course. But that’s not happening in the near future. I have so much other things to do also and because I’m not professional translator or author it’s not first on my list.

I really hope there’s going to be more of Big Honey Dog Mysteries. I really like them. Hopefully Hsin-Yi is going to write some soon.

Yksi klassikko luettu. Vaikkakin, minulla ei ole oikein käsitystä kuka John Finnemore oli ja miten hyvä Robin Hood -kirja tämä edes on, mutta uskon, että tarina on ihan oikea. Tunsin tarinan, enemmän ja vähemmän, tietenkin, ja kun löysin kirjan kirjaston poistohyllystä, oli minun pakko ottaa se mukaani. Kirja kuuluu nuorten toivekirjasto –sarjaan 70-luvulta. Täydellistä kesälukemista – helppoa ja nopeaa.

Tarina oli tuttu. Jotkin kappaleet olivat tosin uusia minullekin ja joissakin oli osia joita tiesin, pienin muutoksin. Pääjuoni oli kuitenkin sama kuin missä tahansa Robin Hood elokuvassa tai muussa sovituksessa. Oli mielenkiintoista nähdä, mitä osia eniten jätettiin käyttämättä legendasta ja mitkä osat ovat saaneet enemmän huomiota kuin oikeassa legendassa. Esimerkiksi Marian neito, hänen roolinsa oli erittäin pieni kirjassa, oli hänelläkin toki oma hetkensä taistellessaan Robin Hoodin kanssa, kuten kaikilla kirjan hahmoilla, mutta kokonaisuudessa häntä näkee vain kolmessa luvussa – yksi luku on täysin omistettu hänelle ja seuraavaksi hän on vain mainittu mennessään naimisiin ja kuollessaan. Muck Myllärinpoika oli myös hahmo jota en tuntenut ennestään kuten myös Will Stutley. Ensin luulin Stutleytä siksi Williksi joka tunnetaan Robin Hoodin kumppanina enemmän, mutta luulen, että kyseessä onkin oikeasti Puna-Will joka esiintyy esim. kaikissa elokuvissa. Se oli hyvin hämmentävää, että tarinassa oli kaksi Williä ja Stutley oli ensimmäinen joka tutustutettiin lukijalle. Myös Prinssi Juhanaa, Rikard Leijonamielen veli, joka yleensä esitetään pääpahiksena kaikissa Robin Hood sovituksissa, oli kirjassa todella vähän. Toki hän oli pahis myös tässä kirjassa, mutta vain vähän aikaa ja aivan kirjan lopussa. Rikard Leijonamielestä kerrottiin enemmän ja toki Nottinghamin sheriffi oli kaikkien pahisten äiti.

Kaiken kaikkiaan kirja oli hieman tylsä. Luvut toistivat toisiaan hyvin paljon. Robin Hood on tylsistynyt, hän vaeltelee metsässä, tapaa jonkun, nämä alkavat ärsyttää toisiaan, tappelevat, he ovat hyvin tasaväkiset vastustajat, mutta molemmat loukkaantuvat, toinen saa tietää tapelleensa Robin Hoodin kanssa, hän on tullut etsimään juuri Robin Hoodia liittyäkseen tämän iloisiin veikkoihin, he kättelevät ja iloisesti katoavat metsään muiden luo. Tätä jatkuu luvusta toiseen melkein identtisenä, muutamin eroin, tai päähahmo vaihdetaan Pikku Johniin.

Silti kirja oli ihan viihdyttävä. Se oli helppo lukea eikä ollut liian tylsä. Kirjassa oli muutamia sitaatteja luultavastikin oikeasta Robin Hood -runosta, tai ainakin luulen, että se on oikea, ja se oli oikein mukavaa. Haluaisin lukea tuon runon.

One classic down. Although, I’m not sure who John Finnemore was and how good Robin Hood book this really is, but I’m sure it told the story accurately. I knew the story, more or less, of course, and when I found the book from library’s removal shelf, I had to take it with me. It belongs to Finnish reading series for young from 70’s. Perfect summer reading – easy and fast.

The story was familiar. Some chapters were new to me and some had parts in it I knew already, with a little modifications. The main plot was the same as in any Robin Hood movie or other adaptions. It was interesting to see which parts were mostly left out from the legend and which parts had more volume than in the real legend. Like Maid Marian, she was a very minor character in the book, although she had her fine moment fighting Robin Hood, as did all the books characters, but overall she is mentioned only in three chapters – one chapter is fully dedicated to her, but other times she just gets married and dies.  Muck the Miller’s Son was a character I didn’t know already, as was Will Stutley. First I thought that Stutley would have been the Will which is known for being Robin Hood’s companion but I think it was really Red Will who appears in all those movies. It was a little bit confusing that there were two Wills and Stutley was the first one who was introduced. There were also very little about Prince John, the brother of Richard I of England who is most of the time the villain in the Robin Hood adaptions. He was the villain in this one too, but only at the end for a little while. There were much more about Richard I and of course the Nottingham’s sheriff was the biggest bad guy.

Overall, the book was a little bit dull. The chapters repeated each other very much. Robin Hood is bored, he wonders in forest, meets someone, they irritate each other, they fight, they are good match for each other, almost equal but both gets hurt, the other finds out he’s fighting with Robin Hood, he has been looking for Robin Hood to join his merry men, they shake hands and merrily goes into forest with others. This goes on and on, with few variations or little change with main character as Little John.

Still, the book was somewhat entertaining. It was easy to read and not too boring. There were some quotations from the real Robin Hood poem, or at least I think it’s the real thing, and that was really nice. I would really like to read that poem.

Luin tämän kirjan jo jonkin aikaa sitten, ainakin kolme kuukautta sitten. Olen ollut niin kiireinen, ettei ole ollut aikaa postata tästä, eikä lukea mitää muutakaan kuin koulukirjoja, ja niidenkin kanssa on ollut ongelmia. Miksi? No, olen tehnyt musikaalia, kuoroshowta, opiskellut miten tulla artistiksi, yrittänyt selviytyä kouluhommista ja yrittänyt aloittaa opinnäytetyötäni. Kiirettä, kiirettä. Toivottavasti kesä on hieman rauhallisempi. Yritän saada aikaiseksi kertoa teille kaikki mitä on meneillään toisessa postauksessa jos vain voin. Katsotaan, miten paljon muistan tästä kirjasta.

Kuulin paljon sekalaisia mielipiteitä tästä kirjasta kun olin työharjoittelussa Uudenkaupungin kirjastossa. Jotkut ylistivät sitä, jotkut inhosivat, mutta se oli melkein koko ajan lainassa jollain, joten aloin ajatella, että ehkä minunkin pitäisi se lainata. Mutta sainkin kirjan siskoni kummitädiltä. Hän ei ollut pitänyt kirjasta ja oli jättänyt sen kesken, kuten myös hänen miniänsä. Minulla oli tosin niin paljon muita kirjoja luettavana (nuorten aikuisten kirjoja enimmäkseen), että aloitin kirjan vasta tammikussa kun pääsin takaisin kouluun. Koulukaverini olivat myös yrittäneet lukea kirjaa aikaisemmin, mutta se oli jäänyt heiltäkin kesken, joten odotukseni kirjan suhteen eivät olleet korkeat.

Sain kyllä kirjan loppuun! Mutta minusta se oli aikamoinen saavutus. Minullakin oli sekavat tunteet kirjaa kohtaan. Melkein jätin sen kesken, mutta koska inhoan jättää kirjoja kesken, taistelin sen loppuun.

Mutta älä käsitä väärin, se oli kyllä mielenkiintoinen. Tarina oli mielenkiintoinen. Kirjoitustyyli oli minulle ongelma. Monet sanovat, että kirjan kieli on kaunista, rohkeaa ja että kirja on todella kaunis, mutta myös karu. Kyllä, olen samaa mieltä rohkeasta ja karusta. Kieli on hyvin karkeaa, realistista ja joissain kohdissa jopa inhorealistista. Kirjailija ei ole häpeillyt kertoa asioista niinkuin ne ovat ja se onkin yksi kirjan viehätyksistä. Kirja on täynnä murresanoja. Ja täytyy myöntää, että tämä oli yksi vaikeimmista asioista minulle. En vain välillä ymmärtänyt mistä puhuttiin. Pohjoiset murteet ovat vieraita minulle, niiden sointi on erilainen ja jopa kirjoitettuna se oli liian vierasta minulle. Mutta! En olisi kuitenkaan tehnyt mitään toisin. Murre kuuluu tähän kirjan!

Toinen ongelma oli kirjan monimutkaiset aikahyppelyt lukujen välillä. En van pysynyt mukana. Minulla ei ollut mitään hajua mitä tapahtui ja milloin ja keitä kaikki ihmiset olivat suurimman osan ajasta. Ja puolivälin jälkeen en vain enää jaksanut edes yrittää ymmärtää, joten luin vain, jotta saisin kirjan loppuun. Se ärsytti minua. Ja minusta tuntuu, että en huomannut joitain selkeitä vihjeitä, joita kirjassa selvästi oli. Luultavasti löysin muutamia vihjeitä, mutta sitten en löytänytkään niihin vastauksia, vaikka ne olivat tuntuneet hyvinkin relevanteilta. Ja samaan aikaan tuntui siltä, että moni asia jäi selittämättä, mutta en voi olla varma, koska en muistanut mitä kaikkea oli aikaisemmin sanottu, koska en ollut voinut pistää niitä mihinkään kontekstiin silloin kun asioita olin lukenut.

Joten, tarina oli mielenkiintoinen, mutta minulla ei ole oikein selkeää kuvaa siitä mitä tapahtui. Siinä oli vaikea ja ongelmallinen rakkaustarina, mutta uskon, että kirjassa oli muutakin. Oli myös mielenkiintoista lukea ajasta ja vuosista joista tietää joiltain osin paljonkin, mutta joiltain ei yhtään. En tiedä mitään saksalaisista Suomessa 2. maailmansodan aikana.

Kirjasta on tehty elokuva. Minun pitäisi katsoa se. Siitä on sanottu, että se on erittäin kaunis elokuva maisemiltaan. Olen varma siitä. Mutta toivon, että elokuvan katsominen auttaisi minua ymmärtämään kirjaa ja sen tarinaa paremmin. On myös mielenkiintoista nähdä Lauri Tilkanen Johann Angelhurstin roolissa. En ole ihan varma mitä mieltä olen hahmosta, hänellä näytti olevan paljonkin ongelmia, ja kun miettii niitä ongelmia ja Lauria joka on todella suloinen tyyppi, odotankin innolla hänen roolityönsä näkemistä.

I read this book a long time ago, at least three months ago. I’ve been so busy that I didn’t have time to post about it and I haven’t had time to read anything else but school books, and with them it’s been a real struggle too. And why? Well, I’ve been making musical, a choir show, learning how to be an artist, tried to manage with school work and tried to start my theses. Busy, busy. Let’s hope summer will be a little bit calmer. I’ll try to tell you everything that’s been going on in another post if I can. So, I’m not so sure how well I remember this book but let’s give it a try.

I heard a mixed feelings about this book while I were on my internship at the Uusikaupunki library. Some braced it and some hated it, it was almost all the time borrowed by somebody and I was thinking that maybe I should borrow it too. But, I got the book from my sister’s godmother. She didn’t like the book and she had left it unfinished, and so had her daughter-in-law. I had so much other books to read (YA books most) so I started to read it on January when I got back to school. My classmates had also tried to read it earlier but they also had left it unfinished, so I didn’t have a big anticipation of the book.

I did finish it! But I think it was a big achievement. I had a mixed feelings of the book too. I almost left it unfinished, but I hate leaving books unfinished, so I struggled the book to the end.

But don’t get me wrong, it was interesting. The story was interesting. It was the writing that was the problem for me. Many say that the language is beautiful, bold and it’s very beautiful book ,but also harsh. Yes, I agree with the bold and harsh parts. The language is very rough, very realistic and in some parts it’s almost like strong realism. The author hasn’t felt shame of writing things as they are, and that’s part of the book’s charm. The book is full of dialect words. I must admit, this was one of the hardest parts for me. I just couldn’t understand all that was said. The northern dialects are very odd for me, there’s a totally different tone in them and even in written, it was too strange for me. But! I wouldn’t have it in another way. It belongs to the book!

The other problem was the complex time jumping between the chapters. I just couldn’t keep up. I had no clue what was happening and when, and who were all the people, most of the time. And after halfway I just gave up trying and just read the book to finish it. It annoyed me. And I feel that I missed some obvious clues because of that. I think I noticed some clues, but didn’t find the answers for them, even though they seemed very relevant. But at the same time I felt like some things were just left unexplained, but I can’t be sure because I just couldn’t remember all that was said earlier, because I didn’t have any context to put them in when I read the text.

So, story was interesting, but I really don’t have a clear view what happened. There was a difficult and troubled love story in it, but I think there were something more too. And it was interesting to read about the time and years which I know some parts very well, but some none. Like, I know nothing about Germans in Finland in WWII.

There’s a movie made from the book. I should watch it. It’s been said that the movie is a very beautiful piece of work by its scenery. And I’m sure of that. But I hope, that if I’ll watch the movie I would understand the book and story better. It’s also interesting to see Lauri Tilkanen as in the role of Johann Angelhurst, the SS lieutenant. I’m not sure if I liked the character, he seemed to have some kind of issues and thinking about those issues and thinking about Lauri who is such a sweet guy, I’m waiting eagerly to see his role work on this part.
